• The Women’s AA Volleyball team lost to Charlottetown Rural last night; however, they were not defeated. The ladies brought their Viking spirit and drive to the court. They played smart and fought hard. Rookie, Makayla Blaisdell came through with a very strong game at center. A great showing by the team heading into a tournament this weekend.
• Members of Women’s Volleyball team have no practice tonight, but are reminded that you leave for Westisle at 11:15 tomorrow morning.
• The Women’s Soccer team played well in a 1-0 loss to Souris yesterday.
• The Red Rock Wrestling Club practices today from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Montague Consolidated School.

Staff and Students: Next Monday, October 26, is School Library Day. As a school, we will be participating in the 4th Annual “Million Minutes Literacy Challenge” (but more details on that later). To lead up to it, Mrs. Killeen will be having daily book draws for free books (most with Halloween theme) all this week. To participate, fill in a ballot when you sign out a book. Titles of free books will be in the written announcements daily. Interested in increasing your chances to win?? Check out the bulletin board display and match the staff member with his or her pet(s). Winner of the “Staff and Their Pets” will be announced on School Library Day. Winner will receive a $15 gift card to Chapters Indigo.

Solid team effort in the second half of play carried the girls to the tie. Coaches Killeen and MacKinnon congratulate the girls on their tremendous effort!
• Congratulations to the Men’s Soccer team for taking three of four points this week with a tie against Bluefield last evening. Outstanding play was displayed by Brett Byrne and Harrison Nicholson last night!
• Congratulations to all Cross County runners for your great showing yesterday in the Zone Meet. All runners qualified for the provincials on October 22 at Charlottetown Rural. Matt Glover won the Juvenile, Devon Gunn was second in the Senior Men, and Emily Jackson placed fifth in the Senior Women. Congrats to everyone!

This Club will lead a campaign for “Spread the Net” – raising funds for people suffering with malaria in the developing world. The Club will also be involved in letter writing with the MRHS twin school in Kenya and many other worthwhile projects. Hey, MRHS! The SADD group would like to let you in on a special event this Friday morning. MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) will be doing two multimedia presentations for our school. Students… don’t forget! Today is the deadline for bringing in your photograph orders through Lifetouch. Order envelopes must be turned in by noon. Retakes are scheduled for October 23!

• Hospital Volunteers are asked to please bring your forms to Mr. Conohan as soon as possible.
• TD Canada Trust : Scholarship for Community Leadership
• Available to all Grade Twelve students planning on going to University or College who have shown exceptional initiative in making a meaningful and lasting difference in their community.
• Scholarships are valued at $7500 and the deadline for application is October 31. See Mr. Conohan or check out the scholarship board for details.
• The Loran Awards and Canadian Morehead-Cain Awards
• Must be graduating this year and attending a university that sponsors the Loran Award (see application)
• Academic average of at least 80% (in 621/521 courses)
• Be a Canadian citizen or hold residency status
• Main criteria is to be a well rounded student who shows exceptional school leadership and community involvement
• Students may apply for school sponsorship if they submit their completed application to Mr. Conohan by October14
• Direct pool applicants (applicants who don’t receive or apply for school sponsorship) must apply by October 27.
Happening Today:
• The Athletic Council will meet today at 12:10 in the gym. Leadership students are also asked to attend; remember the Intramurals major project.
• French Conversation Club meets today. Bring your lunches.
• All Student Council members who volunteered to do the bulletin board are reminded that there will be a planning meeting in Room W105 during lunch break.
• Students who signed up for the French trip – remember your dip orders are due today.
Athletic Department Notices:
• Our Women’s Soccer team lost 2-0 to Colonel Gray on Friday. Solid play was displayed by Marilyn Robbins, Morgan Martin and Krista MacEachern.
• Congratulations to the Men’s Soccer team on your victory over West Isle on Friday by the score of 3-2. Well done, guys and coaches!
• There will be a quick Cross-Country team meeting at 11:38 in Mr. Killeen’s room, M307. All runners competing in the units must attend.
• There will be a mandatory meeting in the gym at the lunch bell for those on the Women’s Soccer team. Please bring your jerseys. Women’s Soccer play in Morell this evening.
• Men’s Soccer is on today – Colonel Gray vs Montague. Be ready to go at 4:00 p.m.
• There will be Field Hockey practice today after school at 3:20 p.m.
• The Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams will practice today after school.
