- Any Grade 12 students who passed in grad pics or baby pics to Mallory for the yearbook and have not gotten them back, please pick them up in the office.

- All guys interested in playing on the Men’s Softball team this year are asked to meet in Room M307, Mr. Killeen’s room, at first break this morning.
- The S.A.V.E. group will meet at 11:45 a.m. in the Guidance Office.
- There is a meeting today at 12:00 noon in Mr. McKinnon’s room for all those who are interested in playing “Under 18 Men’s Soccer” this summer. Attendance is a must.
- Track running practice is today after school. Next week’s practices will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Congratulations to badminton players, Hope Klein, Sara Walsh, Cathy Nabuurs, Jace Wichers, Jake Boudreau and Evan Forrester, for advancing to semi-final play this past weekend at the Provincials. Klein and Walsh picked up a Silver medal in doubles competitions!
Spread the Net would like to thank everyone for their participation in their very successful “Spread the Net Week” last week. The current tally of money raised during the week sits at $330 and there’s still more to count! This brings the total amount raised since December to $1200 which will be used to buy 120 mosquito nets and save countless lives. The results of the home room competition are as follows:
- 3rd Place: Ms. MacDonald’s home room with $47.
- 2nd Place: Mme Flynn’s home room with $98.
- 1st Place and Winner of the Ice Cream Party: Mr. Brother’s home room with an amazing $120. Great work, everyone!

Today’s Spread the Net/Malaria Fact: There is good news. The “Roll Back Malaria” initiative is on track for meeting its goal of getting 100% of the population the necessary preventative measures. This will lead to near-zero deaths by 1015 and the gradual elimination of malaria. If you think you are too small to make a difference… try sleeping in a room with a mosquito.

Today’s Spread the Net/Malaria Fact: Malaria accounts for more than US$12 billion annually in health care costs and lost productivity. Many African families spend close to 40% of their annual income on malaria treatment.
Today’s Events:
- Today is your last chance to enter the SADD poster contest. All entries should be submitted to W307 no later than 11:30 a.m.
- SADD group is meeting in Room W307 at 12:00 noon.
- The SAVE group is meeting in the Guidance Office, starting at 11:45 a.m.
- There will be NO Prom Committee after school today.
- Teachers should note that there is a Prize Committee after school at 3:07 in Ms. MacDonald’s room.
- “Spread the Net” is encouraging everyone to wear blue (preferably light blue) tomorrow to show your support for the war on mosquitoes. Blue is the official colour for malaria awareness. Home rooms are reminded to continue collecting change.

Today’s Spread the Net/Malaria Fact: Globally, there are 300 to 500 million people living with malaria with 90% living in Sub-Saharan Africa. In 2006, malaria caused 1 to 3 million global deaths, with 900,000 in Sub-Saharan Africa. In Liberia, 235 out of 1000 kids under five years of age die each year. That compares with 5 out of 1,000 here in Canada.

Today’s Spread the Net/Malaria Fact: Mosquito nets are the single most effective and inexpensive way of preventing malaria and they last for up to five years. Being treated with an insecticide, they not only provide protection, but kill the mosquito on contact.
If anyone finds a silver I Pod Nano, please turn it into the office.

- If there are any Grade Twelve students interested in Université St. Anne, you are asked to go to Mme Flynn’s room immediately following announcements. A representative from the University will be here during A Block.

“Spread the Net’ is launching a Spread the Net week to lead up to World Malaria Day on Saturday, April 25. Various events will be held throughout the week so listen to the announcements each day to hear what’s going on.
Today’s Malaria Fact: Malaria is the single biggest killer of African children under the age of five and accounts for one in five of all childhood deaths in Africa. In fact, every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. This can easily prevented with the purchase of $10 mosquito nets.
