The Administration of Montague Regional High School visited home room classes on Friday, November 21, to explain the following new procedures put in place for this year’s Christmas Dance.
Before purchasing a dance ticket, a form must be signed by the student and parent, and passed in to the seller of the dance ticket. These contracts (red-coloured sheets) will be distributed to any student who expresses an interest in attending this year’s Christmas Dance. The forms outline the following information:
- All students will enter Christmas dance through gym entrance.
- Security will be located outside gym entrance, at the entrance to bus parking lot, and in the school.
- Students who travel by vehicle will either park or be dropped off in Bus lot.
- As students enter bus lot, security will stop the vehicle.
- Security will not search vehicles; however, if security believes there is the presence of drugs or alcohol in the vehicle or that someone in the vehicle is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the vehicle will be detained and the parents of ALL students in the vehicle will be contacted. Note: If security believes there is the presence of drugs or alcohol in the vehicle or that someone in the vehicle is under the influence of drugs or alcohol, every one in the vehicle will be refused entry to the dance.
- Parents will be asked to come to the school and pick the students up. No suspensions will be issued.
- Should the vehicle not remain at the school as requested, the RCMP will be contacted and we will make contact with as many parents as possible.
- When students enter the school, there will be random testing using alcohol strips.
- Should a student be suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs after they enter the school, the parents will be contacted. In accordance with ESD policy, the student will be suspended and will lose extra curricular privileges.
