Students and Teachers: Staff from the Canadian Blood Services will be here on Wednesday, February 20, during the noon break, for a Blood Type visit. If you are at least seventeen years of age, you can find out what blood type you are. They will be set up in the Student Lounge.
High School Musical: All students involved in the musical must meet on Tuesday, February 19, at 12:00 exactly for an important meeting in Room W206 (Mr. Nicholson’s room). This includes anyone who wants to work behind the stage as a crew member. costume person, make-up artist, etc. Bring your lunches.
The Quit 4 Life group will meet tomorrow, Tuesday; time to be announced.
Library: New books have arrived! Lots of new Meg Cabot, Gossip Girl, Lurlene McDaniel, and Nicholas Sparks. Also, new titles by S.E. Hinton, Stephen King and Alistair MacLeod. Check out the center display or ask Mrs. Killeen.
In celebration of 100th Anniversary of Anne of Green Gables, Penguin Group Books have launched a national letter writing contest inviting all Canadians of all ages to write Anne Shirley, telling her (in 500 words or less) what she means to them. For more information and help, please see Mrs. Killeen any time. Contest runs until April 30. Prizes include a $2,500 travel voucher, books, coins and more!
Wrestling: There will be a wrestling practice tonight from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at Montague Consolidated School. There won’t be any Thursday practices until further notice..the time has been switched to Mondays.
Attention SADD Members: There will be a SADD meeting today at 12:00 in M303. You will be discussing the Extravaganza coming up in March. Come and get your permission forms. Also, any members who received T-Shirts, please pay for them as soon as possible.
Teachers should note that there will be a Math and Science Department meeting at 3:15 today in Room M303.
Band Students: There will be a flute sectional today during lunch for Grade Ten students: Emily Dewar, Evan Jackson and Meg Preston. Concert Band will be held on Wednesday and Jazz Combo on Thursday after school.
R.C.M.P. Information session is scheduled for Wednesday, February 20, at 6:00 p.m. at the Montague Fire Hall when Corporal Andrew Blackadar will be available to answer any questions. Students interested may make contact through Mr. Armstrong in the Guidance Office.

- Grade Twelve students applying for college or university: If you’ve not already done so, please give your transcript request form to Mr. Armstrong today.
- Students applying to Holland College, please note that the deadline to apply is February 28. This is a “received by” deadline, meaning that your applications, resumes, transcripts, and other supporting documents, if required, must be at the Admissions Office by the 28th.
- Grade Eleven students should note that Interchange on Canadian Studies is having a student conference, April 26 to May 3, in Regina, Saskatchewan. The theme of the conference is “Energy in our Future: What Kind? What Cost? What Opportunity?” If you’re in Grade 11 and have an interest in a week in Saskatchewan, please see Mr. Armstrong as soon as possible.

Public meetings to discuss the development of a watershed management plan for the Montague/Valleyfield River systems will be held during the month of February. The first meeting will be held at the Iona Hall on February 19, beginning at 7:00 p.m. These meetings will provide everyone who lives, works, or uses the watershed, the opportunity to voice their concerns and provide ideas about any issues they have. Grads are reminded that the Ski Trip has been postponed. We’re waiting for Brookvale to give us an alternate date, so stay tuned!
The Ladies Basketball team had a very successful weekend at Charlottetown Rural to win the championship game over Amherst. Caleigh Burhoe, Hanna Hameline and Alana Murphy were named players of the game during the tournament. Highlights of the weekend included Becc’s crutches, Hanna’s three pointer, Caleigh’s charge and Bethany’s great ball handling. The ladies play at Bluefield on Wednesday night.
Teachers are reminded that today is “Tech Tuesday”. You are invited to go to the lab to learn how to use the new digital cameras and upload pictures.
Teachers should note that there will be a Social Studies/Language Department meeting today at lunch in Mr. McKinnon’s room at 11:40 a.m.
There will be a Student Council Executive and Winter Carnival Committee meetings at 11:45 a.m. in Room M307. There is NO Student Council meeting after school today.
Students in STRIVE should note that the meeting will take place on Friday at 11:35 in M114. Lunch will be provided.
French Students:
- Any students sixteen years and old who are interested in studying French this summer should check out www.myexplore.ca to see about the Bursary program. Ça vaut la peine!!
- Any Grade Ten Core French or French Immersion students interested in the three month Quebec Exchange program should see Mme Flynn for more information.
French Trip Students: There will be a Wednesday lunch-time meeting (12:00 in M301). A reminder that the February payment is due Wednesday!
Band Students:
- There will be Concert Band after school tomorrow. All members are asked to attend as you are performing in three weeks at the Confederation Center for “Band Days”.
- Ms. LaFrance’s Jazz Combo will be rehearsing after school on Thursday.
Any students wishing to sign up for ASAP (Accelerated Apprenticeship Program) should meet in the Vocational Area this afternoon at 1:45. Note that this opportunity is only open to those students who are sixteen years of age or older.
The High School Musical Pit Band rehearsal is cancelled after school today.
There is a minor change in the High School Musical rehearsal schedule tomorrow and all cast members must be at rehearsal from 4:15 to 5:00 p.m.
Ms. Beck’s Peer Helpers from last semester A, B and D Blocks should report to Ms. Beck’s room. Her last semester C Block Peer Helpers should report to Mr. Nicholson’s room.

Grade 12 Students are reminded that the Ski Trip to Brookvale will not be happening unless 100 students are sign up and paid by Monday morning at 9:15. Go to Room M110 today at noon and bring your money!

UPEI is holding a “High School Day with the UPEI Panthers” on Saturday, February 9th, in the Sports Centre, starting at 1:00 p.m. This event has been created to further introduce the students to UPEI and post secondary education as well as the fun of getting involved in the athletic aspects of post-secondary education. Included with your ticket is free entry to three varsity games (Women’s Basketball, UPEI vs CBU at 1 pm), (Men’s Basketball, UPEI vs CBU at 3 pm), and (Men’s Hockey, UPEI vs STFX at 4 pm). There is a free BBQ for high school students where they will have the chance to chat and ask questions to current UPEI student athletes from a variety of sports. Students will have the chance to win a free UPEI course for the 08/09 year (valued at $444). There will be prizes and events during game half times, prizes for the best dressed Panther fans (green and white) and prizes for the best represented high school. Students can get tickets at the gate with their student ID or see Miss Currie who also has tickets. Free parking is also available for this event.

Dance Expressions are now accepting dance students for a fifteen-lesson session ending with a stage performance at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown. Classes available include Introduction to Jazz/Ballet, Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Intensive Training Ballet. Trial classes and group rates are available. A Representative from Memorial will be in the Guidance Office at 9:00am, and a Representative from UNB will be in the Guidance Office at 1:00pm. Students wishing access to these Representatives must make arrangements with Mr. Armstrong today.
