Reminder of Storm Policy in Regard to Exams:
●    If there is school this morning and students are sent home at noon, then the examinations scheduled to be written this afternoon will be written on the last day of exams, which is Tuesday afternoon (CHM521A, CHM621A, & SCI421A).
●    If there is a one-hour delay on an exam day, both examinations will still be written on the scheduled day. The lunch hour will be shortened. Morning exams will go from 9:30 to 12:00 pm with first dismissal t 11:00 am. Afternoon exams will be written from 12:30 to 3:00 pm with first dismissal at 2:00 pm.
●    If school is cancelled for the day, the examinations scheduled for that day will be written on the next day. This means that the remainder of the exam schedule is moved ahead one day. The ‘Turn Around Day’ scheduled for February 1 would then be on February 2, making Friday, February 3, the first day of second semester.

It’s a “D-C” Day!

Student Use of Photocopiers:  With exams almost upon us, many students are in panic mode trying to photocopy missed notes and review sheets. Because teachers are using the copiers to prepare examinations, we are putting restrictions on student use of the two photocopiers located in the school:  No student use of copiers at this time. Notes will not be scanned for you! Students can request copies during class time if they have a note from the teacher, giving them permission to copy specific material. Students can request copies during breaks, or before and after class time, at a cost of 10 cents a sheet. Thanks for your cooperation.

Teen Night at Wellness Centre: Students are reminded that Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre hosts Friday Night “Teen Nights”. Activities vary from week to week based on what teens would like to do, but every Friday will include a 2 hour ice skate to music and lights. This event starts at 8:30 and will continue weekly until the end of March. Admission is open to all teenage students with the fee of $5 and valid Student ID.

●    All Grade 12 students applying to college and university are reminded that deadlines are approaching.
○    Feb.15: Deadline for UPEI Nursing (and most other nursing programs in the region)
○    Feb.28: Holland College deadline. Applicants must include a resume with application.
○    Mar.1: UPEI deadline and most other Atlantic Canada universities.
●    Students need to check specific dates and guidelines for the schools and programs they are applying to as they vary.
●    All applicants must fill out a transcript request. Copies are located under the Scholarship Board in the Student Service office. Completed forms should be placed in the mailbox on Mr. Conohan’s door at Student Services. This form will indicate where transcripts are to be sent.
●    There will be a handout with more detailed information sent to Grade 12 home rooms later this week. If you are not in a Grade 12 home room but would like one, please pick one up at the Student Service office.
●    Several major scholarships have upcoming deadlines. Go to Student Services for more details. Top 20 Under 20: January 23; Toyota Earth Day Scholarship: January 31; Terry Fox Humanitarian Award: February 1; Many UPEI Entrance Scholarships: March 1.
●    Forum for Young Canadians is a one week Youth Forum in Ottawa for students interested in national politics and public affairs. If interested, see Mr. Conohan.
●    Canada World Youth Programs: Several programs are available: opportunities for youth to travel within Canada and abroad to do humanitarian work.
●    Explore Program 2012: Five week intensive French course for all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Participants receive a $2000 bursary which covers most expenses. Students may live in a student residence at a chosen university (University of Moncton is the closest) or live with a host family.

There will be cookies for the class with the highest percentage of students dressed in pyjamas.
○    Pie Your Favourite Teacher Auction: Come to the cafeteria at lunch on Friday to bid to put a pie in the face of your favourite teacher. The highest bidder gets the honours.
○    Disney Movie Night: The Disney Choir will be hosting a Disney Movie Night featuring the movies ‘Tangled’ and ‘The Lion King’ on Friday night from 6:30 to 10:00. The cost is $3 per person. Popcorn, caramel corn and other home-baked treat will also be for sale at this event. Come on out and relax and relive your childhood with these Disney classics.

This is a great opportunity to learn about programs the College has to offer, updates to the College, the application process, etc.  This session is open to all interested teens and adults in the community.
●    All Grade 12 students applying to college and university are reminded that deadlines are approaching.
○    Feb.15: Deadline for UPEI Nursing (and most other nursing programs in the region)
○    Feb.28: Holland College deadline. Applicants must include a resume with application.
○    Mar.1: UPEI deadline and most other Atlantic Canada universities.
●    Students need to check specific dates and guidelines for the schools and programs they are applying to as they vary.
●    All applicants must fill out a transcript request. Copies are located under the Scholarship Board in the Student Service office. Completed forms should be placed in the mailbox on Mr. Conohan’s door at Student Services. This form will indicate where transcripts are to be sent.

●    Canada World Youth Programs: Several programs are available: opportunities for youth to travel within Canada and abroad to do humanitarian work.
●    Explore Program 2012: Five week intensive French course for all levels: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Participants receive a $2000 bursary which covers most expenses. Students may live in a student resident at a chosen university (University of Moncton is the closest) or live with a host family.

Congratulations to Brendan Curran who was elected Premier at the Rotary Club Youth Parliament on Friday. Joining Brendan on the government side as Deputy Premier will be Christian Norton while slinging questions and criticism from the opposition benches will be Monica Furness and Melissa Haberl.

Physical Education Department Notices:
●    Congrats to the Women’s Basketball  team who  wallopped Morell last evening by a score of 43-12 (or something like that!) The girls were on fire!
●    Members of the “Gunn” Dodgeball team will meet in the PE area at first break today. Players should bring their signed consent forms and t-shirt money.
●    Girl’s Fitness Group will meet today at 3:15 in the Phys. Ed. area.
●    Come out and cheer on the Men’s Basketball team as they take on the Charlottetown Rural AAA team on Wednesday at 5 pm!
●    Students are reminded that the Fitness Center is open every morning from 8:10 to 8:40.

●    The Disney Choir is hosting Exam Prep Stress Relief Day here at MRHS on Friday, January 20. There are three parts to this day: Pyjama Day, the “Pie Your Favourite Teacher” Auction, and the Disney Movie Night. Details follow:
○    Pyjama Day: All students and teachers are invited to pay $1 and wear their pyjamas to school for the day. Students from the Disney Choir will be around during home room to take the donations and pass out stickers for those who have paid. There will be cookies for the class with the highest percentage of students dressed in pyjamas.
○    Pie Your Favourite Teacher Auction: Come to the cafeteria at lunch on Friday to bid to put a pie in the face of your favourite teacher. The highest bidder gets the honours.
○    Disney Movie Night: The Disney Choir will be hosting a Disney Movie Night featuring the movies ‘Tangled’ and ‘The Lion King’ on Friday night from 6:30 to 10:00. The cost is $3 per person. Popcorn, caramel corn and other home-baked treat will also be for sale at this event. Come on out and relax and relive your childhood with these Disney classics.
